      This is not a swiss specific problem but a general trend in Kosovo among young people I’ve observed (sadly, I must say). I’m Albanian myself (me falni por shkrimi jem ne shqip eshte shume keq. Nese doni me shkru ni pergjegje lirisht shkruani ne shqip) and every year I see more women wearing Hijabs or men with a distinct Muslim appearance. Of course, in Prizren, where I’m from, the trend might be stronger than in other regions (e.g. Drenica where I have family as well and where people seem to be more immune to this).

      What really surprises me is that, without exception, every 50+ year old I talked to about this topic is worried about this trend. Normally you would expect old ones being conservative and the young ones liberals but here it’s the opposite.

      To be honest, this year I realized how strange it is that a completely foreign language is being heard literally everywhere 5 times a day. In other cultures and countries this would be impossible to even think about. History also showed that many cultures vanished after being introduced to Islam. Think of Maghreb, Egypt, etc. which all had their distinct culture and language and after 1500 years none of that exists anymore.

      I know this is a simplification of a more complex topic but it’s evident that a conservative Muslim society tends to be intolerant towards other religions and cultures. The Albanian people were always an exception to this due to its history and for the sake of a better future I hope it will stay like this.
