Keystone seems like the most possible pipeline of all the proposed ones thus far. It doesn’t cross provincial borders, and could kill two birds with one stone
100%, and most likely a form of energy east brewing right now aswell .
Keystone costs nothing and has the same effect of the imaginary north pacific coast with out causing a social and economic dumpster fire .
Keystone diverts volume from Transmountian directly into the states in turn allowing more crude access to China .. These are the only two prospects for the pacific for customers and they are currently sucking 90+% of volume out of Transmountian.
Before the trade wars the ironic Truth was that Transmountian always was simply a bypass for Keystone. They got luck with the trade war and disivefied abit with China but that really does nothing but hip tie us economically to another superpower .
Oil is the safest bet with the large volume resource trades, use this to diversify the rest .
Keystone died on the US side of the border. When it was proposed, the US wanted everything we could send them but by the time the oilsands expanded, the US was the top producer on earth. Fraking really did change the game.
A couple refineries want that product but the rest dont. None of the producers want that product. The Sioux dont want it crossing their land and the corn lobby is also in the anti-dilbit pipeline team. It isnt just some hippy environmentalists trying to keep this project dead. Too many billionaires and corporations see their profit losses with that pipeline.
Last time Trump was in, he appointed judges and loosened as many regulations he could and it still failed every legal challenge. This project realistically died when Harper and Obama were in power. Biden just stopped fighting a losing fight.
Carney brought it up to Trump to remind him the ball is in his court. We didn’t stop the project, they did. Trump needs to make it happen if it can happen. I am not confident Trump can make that deal.
In exchange for a Royal state dinner, the UK got a bad trade deal and a public thrashing from Trump at the UN.
We can try to get Keystone XL restarted but it is foolish to think it will move Trump from his vision of repatriating mining, manufacturing and, eventually, energy, stateside. Remember, Trump believes we have a „natural conflict“ on these items and our proximity makes us a problem.
It might not be popular, but our primary export is oil. If we truly want to diversify away from the US, we need pipelines that will allow us to get our oil to other places.
