What I don’t get is why Tamaki-san is behaving like a prima donna. First refusing to be nominated for PM by other parties. Then „reluctantly“ agreeing to contemplate being nominated for the PM post by other opposition parties (but of course his own party should nominate him for the PM post). But insisting on a 100% alignment of policies (100% his way or he is not cooperating). All this despite his party being much smaller compared with other opposition parties.
In any coalition one cannot get 100% of what one wants, one needs to compromise, put on hold (freeze) some demands, reach a temporary truce in order to achieve some sort of an agreement. Tamaki-san cannot be serious, does he even know himself what he wants? He is a leader of a smallish opposition party but behaves as if he was a secretary of the LDP.
Edit: It looks as if Tamaki-san wants to be nominated (but only by his own party, not anyone else) for the PM post but does not actually want to be elected to the PM post.
Edit 2: Tamaki-san should (re-)watch Star Wars:
* **「Do or do not. There is no try.」**:「やるか、やらないかだ。『試し』などない」。
Seems if there is gonna be an upset (in the against the odds sense) it will be Tamaki. I still think Ishin teaming up with the LDP is the most likely outcome, followed by a confidence vote confirming Takaichi with each party trying to extract different concessions.
This is why there will be no gas tax cuts, consumption tax cuts, or 200,000 yen stimulus payout this year. When nobody wins a majority, nobody wins
