      I came to Spain yesterday did the biometric jazz, took all of 10 minutes to get through passport control. So I guess it depends on the airport how long of a delay there will be

      It’s all a fucking mess and this shit shouldn’t be this inconvenient. Brexit or no Brexit, governments shouldn’t be trying to make people’s lives worse and more complicated.

      Where the fuck are all these newspapers hallucinating the long wait times from?

      Almost all passport controls in Europe so far have been in person, and speaking from my experience at mostly Vienna Airport, that meant you had to queue up to only a couple of booths. When multiple planes landed close together the queues could become quite long.

      Now instead there’s somewhere between 15 and 20 of those machines and you don’t have to interact with a single person. How the fuck will this take longer than before? Seriously, how?

      I was promised that it would take longer now…but I’ve flown through passport control. I even go through the EU queue. So I’ll believe it when I see it

      4 hour queues? HAH those are rookie numbers for Brits, queueing for hours on end means nothing to us it’s the norm. 😂

      Though hopefully it’ll annoy the rich people visiting EU country’s.

      Given the UK has some of the best customs and airports on earth for wait times I dont find this whole“ lol Brexit means Brexit“ attitude especially appealing.

      Everyone is losing out here. No one benefits. Its just a bit dumb.

      Yes I am aware the Brits voted to leave and were very angry but I dont think making people wait in line benefits anybody.

      Incidentally its dumb for anyone to be waiting for ages. But especially for a major 70m population right on the EU doorstep. In some cases like Grenoble airport they only fly to the UK. Being petty is not a good look.

      EES is being brought in by stages: 

      >According to UK newspaper The Independent, only three countries – Estonia, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic – will have the EES in place for all arrivals and departures on Sunday.
      Switzerland says the system will be in place at airports in Basel and Geneva on 12 October, while Zurich will implement it later, on 17 November. 

      >Smaller airports, such as Lugano, Dübendorf, and Bern, will have the new system in place by the end of March 2026.

      >Similarly in Germany, only Düsseldorf airport will be using the EES from 12 October. Frankfurt and Munich will follow, after which other airports will also bring it in. 

      >Spain will test the EES system on Sunday with a single flight arriving at Madrid airport.

      >For travellers leaving the UK via the Port of Dover, the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone and the Eurostar terminal at London St Pancras, EES registration will take place upon departure, overseen by French border officials.

      >At both the Port of Dover and the Eurotunnel terminal, only freight and coach traffic will be subject to EES checks from Sunday.

      >Other traffic, including the thousands of car passengers who use the crossings each day, will be subject to the new system from 1 November.

      >As for Eurostar, from 12 October only business and premium class passengers will be subject to EES checks. For other passengers, they will begin in January 2026.

      Edit: It appears Prague had some issues where it stopped using the automated kiosks, however as queues built, arrivals were allowed through with conventional checks to alleviate queues.  

      ITV has a track record of this: They caused a right shit show by implying there was a UK fuel shortage when it was just a single fuel station that closed due to lack of delivery drivers on a particular shift…24hrs later whole country panic buys 1000times more fuel than it usually does creating nationwide shortages. As such their news/journalism is now no better than the Express/Mail etc.

      the brits assault the EU, flights fully booked for the next three months. Entire families board random airplanes just to fly back home right away.

      „I’ve never seen so much free queuing in my entire life, how could I miss the chance?“

      „There’s no equivalent offer at home anymore these days, now that everything is on demand and automated. How are our kids gonna learn proper queuing? We risk losing our tradition. Thanks EU!“
