hopefully the Greek government ‘stands firm’. Turkey can’t be allowed to join literally a ‘defence scheme’, it’s absurd.
& as the article points out, the ‘biggest’ supporters of Turkey being involved are the same ones pushing scaremongering abt Russia (it says ‘Eastern Europe’ — which obviously means Poland, Baltics, Finland, etc.).
this fiasco’ also serves as a great. example of why Armenia, ‘getting closer’ (whilst distancing itself from its economic/military allies) to the EU is stupid.
to the EU, Turkey (& by extension, Azerbaijan) is not a ‘threat’. it’s obvious that the only EU country apart from Greece/Cyprus that actually cares abt the Turks is France.
for EU, under its current form, the only ‘threat’ is Russia. and, of course, Russia poses 0 ‘threat’ to Armenia.
that said, I don’t disagree w/ Greece/Cyprus EU membership. I’ve said it before, I consider Cyprus joining the EU — the way it did, right after rejecting the ‘joke’ UN re-unification plan, and following some great diplomatic moves by Greece — a significant win for them. so to them, just on this basis, EU membership is worth it — it gives significant diplomatic leverage against Turkey.
however, Armenia’s not the same. different history, geography, geo-politics. for Armenia, it isn’t worth it — not even discussing it.
What does this defence scheme include exactly
It’s not your first time covertly shilling for Russia while being Russian yourself on this sub, maybe go do something else?
Putinbot shilling for Russia
Can’t have a European Union with Germany in it
You do realize that if Turkey is included in a defensive pact with the EU, this creates reasons for Turkey and Greece to get along, right? Plus Turkey is decently strong and they control the Bosporus straits so they would be good to keep Russia caged in the Black Sea. Oh and it should be a common position to absolutely screw over fascist Russia in any way possible so that it abandons its imperialist encroachments.
No doubt Greece will cave in as usual in return for some crumbs from the EU such as some old junk German tanks. Greece should have severed all relations with Turkey when it trashed the Lausanne Treaty by expelling all Greeks from Istanbul in 1955, invading Cyprus in 1974 & converting Ayia Sophia into a mosque. Greece is not even blocking Turkeys EU accession but supports it! Unfortunately the days when Greece had great leaders has long gone, a distant memory just a tale to be told of Leonidas & Alexander.
Turkey is a regular belligerent, Greece should veto any attempt until Turkey quits with the gunboat diplomacy.
