Watch Saving Mr. Banks if you want a little background on the Author and the making of Mary Poppins.
Nothing wrong with the movie, but its pretty clear that movie Mary Poppins has been heavily Disneyfied if you read any of the books. And Dick van Dyke should never be placed in charge of an accent again.

I mean, Dick Van Dyke did commit a crime against the English language.
I also can’t imagine anyone else but him in that role.

Which makes me all the more thankful that Roald Dahl’s estate went with Gene Wilder for Mr. Wonka and the way they made that film. [Excellent review and commentary on the film here](https://sfdebris.com/videos/films/willywonkaandthechocolatefactory.php).
