It is actually much less of a dystopian hellscape than it is made out to be. Decent amount of greenery inbetween and believe it or not, they have a mcdonalds in there. Also, big fat german SUVs in front of some of the buildings, which was confusing to me considering the buildings were starting to fall apart…
Soviet vibes
It looks quite better than many former commie blocks in Poland, Slovakia, Czechia,… When they painted them with garish colors

The Balkans without Balconies

One of the largest projects of mass housing in Belgrade, like Blocks 22-23, Cerak Vinogradi and other similar ones, Blocks 61-64 were constructed from 1975 to 1987. A „socialist dream“ with colonels, surgeons, scientists, nurses, drivers and plumbers living as neighbours.
Now don’t confuse this „socialist“ housing with what you in the West call „social“ housing, it’s not it. On more problematic aspects of Yugoslav housing projects, see, for example:

I lived in Belgrade for a year and a half. And even though I’m from a pretty solidly former Soviet country myself, its architecture drove me into terrible gloom… And there’s so little greenery, really little. Just concrete everywhere.
That said, Serbs are absolutely wonderful people, and Serbia outside of Belgrade is amazing.
This picture would benefit from a bit of white paint and a different camera angle. Renovation with higher quality materials can also do wonders, but it is a more expensive solution.
