SS: As *Reuters* reports via (Straits Times; Oct. 10, 2025), South Korea summoned Cambodia’s ambassador after the death of a South Korean student linked to an online job scam, demanding urgent action against the rising number of fraud and detention cases targeting Korean nationals.

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun conveyed Seoul’s “grave concern” to Ambassador Khuon Phon Rattanak, urging Phnom Penh to take swift and concrete measures to curb cybercrime networks operating in Cambodia. In response, Khuon pledged to relay the concerns to his government.

The incident, involving a student tortured to death in August, has intensified public outrage in South Korea and prompted Seoul to raise its travel alert for Phnom Penh to a special advisory level, underscoring deepening anxieties over Cambodia’s role as a hub for online scam syndicates.
