    1. Kind of „_Thanks, Captain Obvious_“ territory, but for the record:

      > Grijalva thinks she knows why. There is no political calculation that could justify Mike Johnson’s refusal to seat a duly elected member of the House: Grijalva won her race, and both his oath to the constitution and his responsibilities to the body that he leads require Johnson to seat her. But in lieu of deference to these higher aims, Grijalva suspects that Johnson is pursuing a much more cynical one: in refusing to swear her in and allow her to take up the office to which she has been elected, Johnson, Grijalva thinks, is aiming to stop her becoming the final member of Congress whose signature is needed to force a vote on the release of confidential files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Currently, the petition has 217 signatures; it needs only 218. Grijalva has pledged to support it. “Why the rules are different for me – the only thing that I can think of is the Epstein files,” Grijalva told the New York Times.

    2. Technically, I believe it’s known as, ‚corruption.‘

Epstein, Epstein, Epstein, Epstein, Epstein, Epstein, Epstein, Epstein.

    3. Johnson is testing the waters for refusing to seat whoever he disagrees with. This will be their response to the mid terms, if trump doesn’t go for martial law first and just cancel elections outright.

Because she’s a democrat, and the GOP have become fully fascist.

Because he’s an immoral monster who desires nothing more than authoritarian rule.

    6. There should be a mechanism in place for when the government is shut down or when a politician refuses to do their sworn duty, they just get fined daily until it stops. The longer it goes, the bigger the daily fine gets. All these fucks think about is political positioning and money.

Some of the most powerful people in the world are likely to be on that list ~

This is America’s Elite vs. America

I don’t think it’s going to be that easy, honestly. Kinda expecting the parasites on that list will pull every power play possible to keep it buried.

    8. I wouldn’t be surprised if they never seat another democrat or independent.

Same reason as many other things at the moment. „Because there are no repercussions or accountability for not doing it.“

Maybe Mike Johnson is just protecting Mike Johnson – is HE in the Epstein files?

I think Democrats could end up with a winning hand if they stay the course. Democrats really have nothing to lose as they’re taking the blame for everything including the sun rising in the east by Republicans.  Let the shutdown cook, Republicans will cave, she’ll be seated before the midterms.

The Republican base is locked in, but they can’t win without the middle. Seems like they’re the only ones who don’t realize that

Because Trump, and those helping him, are protecting pedophiles. Including himself. It’s not a complicated question.

    13. Milamber1645 on

Because the republicans don’t want an extra vote in. Plain and simple. If it was one of theirs no problem.

I think it’s because he he knows that she will immediately sign the Epstein discharge petition. That will give him 48 hours to bring the measure to the floor. It will be passed. He can’t stop this from happening, but he thinks he can control when it happens.

I’m sick of the democrats “fighting back” within the rules. If she is already elected, just get her set up at a desk and don’t wait for a swearing in. If the speaker wont hold a vote on the files, go to the house floor with the majority and livestream yourselves declaring enough votes and run that video all over news and social media.

    16. Ruben Gallego already told us why: because Mike Johnson is a pedo protector.

    17. Extra_Ad1847 on

Because she is the 218th vote the democrats need to force a house vote to release the Epstein files.

He keeps saying it’s not because of the Epstein vote but has anyone asked what is reason is?

      Well lets see, it’s either:

      1. She’s a woman
      2. She’s not white
      3. She’s a Democrat
      4. She will enable a forced vote on the Epstein files being released
      5. All of the above

    20. MeteorOnMars on

Because the GOP is an anti-Constitution and anti-American organization that no longer pretends to be lawful.

    21. GirdedByApathy on

She’s not of the fascist party, therefore she is to be denied power.

Hey, the next time Republicans cry about the will of the people, ask why they aren’t out protesting on the streets for this. They are actively defying the results of an election by refusing to swear her in.

    22. Because they’re the Guardians Of Pedophiles party now. Can’t have something like *democracy* getting in the way of that!

    23. BoogieWaters on

Because they need some version on martial law in place, before Epstein files are forced into the public eye. He will need ways to quell massive resistance. There will be a segment of Republicans and MAGA that defect, if the connections become public.

    24. There is a long standing norm for decorum in these sorts of situations where you don’t seat the final vote to needed to release the Epstein files.

    25. Ok_Perspective_8361 on

Because this is the plan going forward, until they make the Democratic Party illegal.

    26. Casual_Toast_Person on

The answer to every question like this is: “who’s going to stop them?” Until that gets an answer, there’s no point in asking the question anymore.

    27. My question is why is that something he can actually DO? Like… why is that within his authority?
