Those attitudes highlight the polarization of an issue once governed by bipartisan consensus over the need to protect children from inappropriate violent or sexual content. Now, the researchers said, offensive political ideas are viewed as dangerous – threatening free speech as a core value.
During the mid-20th century, the left and right jointly targeted sexual and violent content, including a bipartisan U.S. Senate hearing in 1954 on the public health threat posed by comic books. Later, campaigns coalesced to label music and video games. But in recent years, concerns have shifted to political ideology. **On the left, progressives have targeted books seen as reinforcing racism, sexism and homophobia, while the right has attacked literature promoting diversity, or that violates norms of cisgendered heterosexuality**.

One of those is censorship, and the other isn’t.
Oh my god can we not pretend that „both sides“ of this are at all the same?
I’ve been saying for years that the way the far-left behaves looks more like a false flag operation by the far right than actual liberal ideas.
Using authority to force ideas onto others is not a liberal mindset. Not being accepting of people living their lives different than you do is not a liberal mindset.
Both sides are controlled by the same extremists that want fascism. They just can’t agree on who should be the dictator, because no human is suited to be a dictator. We’re all idiots.
So one side in this expresses their disdain for what they take umbrage with publicly on social media, and the other is straight up making what they dislike illegal?
Only one of these actually constitutes „literary censorship“.
I’d argue that racial, sexism, and homophobia are violence against others.
„Racism is bad“ certainly is not a „political view“.
