This is quite literally the opposite of elbows up, but what else is new from Carney? Apparently the only threat he seems intend on defending Canada from is a good quality of life for the working class.

There is no way a Ballistic Missile Defence system will come into operation within our life time and I think Canada should refuse participate in one. First of all if you successfully build one you turn the MAD paradigm on its head as you shift from a deterrence system that has guaranteed nuclear armed state actors will never use nukes against each other to a fail safe system in where first strike nuclear attacks are encouraged due to the existence of BMD. Second of all the deck is heavily stacked in favour of the attacker launching warheads at another with BMD. The defender must shoot down all warheads of which not everything launched in an InterContinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) is a warhead. Since the advent of Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles (MIRV) technology ICMB’s no longer have unitary warheads and nuclear armed nations can pack ICBM MIRV buses with penetration aids and decoys to overload BMD systems. In short it will become a sword and shield situation in where advancements in BMD tech drive an advancement in technology to defeat BMD and rinse and repeat while costing more and more. In short Canada needs to disengage in BMD talks with US.

This is bullshit fearmongering and consent manufacturing to throw the US miltary industrial complex a bone. If anyone is going to invade us, it’s going to be the US. The sooner we realize that the US is serious when bringing up the Monroe Doctrine again the sooner we’ll be able to actually deal with the future that’s actually coming. We already see them eyeing LATAM and we need to realize that we are also on the table in their expansionist dreams.
There is no way we should be participating in, or aiding in ANY way, setting up a system whose only purpose is to allow the USA to fire off nukes without fear of retaliation.

Most of those threats are to the US. We should not be tagging along with them. They’ve proven they can’t be trusted or relied upon.
Well, every nation with a „deal“ had to make an absurd announcement of an unrealistic amount of investment.
To pretend we could avoid such an announcement while a bloc like the EU felt they had to make one would be naive. This might just be ours.
Donald Trump is the threat. He’s already started a war with the USA. Invading cities. He’s nuking fishermen in the ocean. Fucker is crazy. Between Donald Trump and Danielle Smith’s separatist movement, the enemy is at the gate.
If we’re part of a system that is entirely under US control, it’s a bad move. If we get missile defence for our territory exclusively under our control, then it’s a good move. Access to technology isn’t a bad thing. We can use it to bootstrap domestic production of various defence tech.
