Ich glaube, es ist ein Jahr her, dass die neuen Passkontrollschleusen in Betrieb genommen werden: – immer noch funktionieren nur wenige davon, – der Scanner am Eingang ist blockiert, solange sich jemand darin aufhält und die Gesichtserkennung durchführt.
Die Singapurer würden darüber sehr laut lachen

What else would you expect? That it lets you scan your passport so you can join the other lad and make selfies together?

Last time I was at BRU, all of them worked though.
Why the hell couldn’t they make a visual that would fit the screen in the right direction???

There is a lot more nuance to these scanners and why they sometimes not work or only partially work. Most of it has to do with staffing by FedPol. If they are not adequately staffed, they cannot open more e-gates. Imo already a lot of steps are taken by the airport and Fedpol to make things smoother.
I went to the US in Summer 2024. They worked fine then tbh.

I flew through Vienna two weeks ago, leaving Schengen and one of the passport gates had a Windows desktop on it… that probably explains why they are so finicky 😁
About a month ago I was in Turkey, and I saw how promptly their e-passport gates were operating as I was waiting on the queue. I was genuinely impressed, and they had a lot of them operational too.
Zaventem is the display of Belgium way of organizing „effectiveness“ which is described as „geduld“.
I have no fucking idea why they got these, the previous white models with the moving camera always worked. While these, they never do. I’ve only ever seen 1/10 people get through them with no issue.
I don’t even try to use them anymore, it’s a waste of time. Then the airport staff throws a fit because „you must use the gates“, then buy some that fucking work instead of having everyone stand around these pieces of junk.
