The National Guards duty is to protect the citizenry. Not follow orders to harm them.

    2. Signs of life from the military. This is huge actually and Trump admin will not be happy. Things like this can snowball.

I listened to his statement the other day.

It’s a bold statement in today’s world / political climate.

      Mad respect for this guy.

    4. Okay but how cinema would it be if Trump calls in the National Guard and they side with citizens and fight with ICE

    5. This is the proper state response. Don’t escalate and give Trump and Foxshit entertainment any justification for furthering their dictatorship goals, just have NG troops there to protect protestors. If the divorced dad gravy seals battalions want to pick a fight, they can start shooting at NG troops instead of unarmed protestors…. watch how quick the fascist pussies back down.

I’m hopeful that if shit starts to go sideways that our military will protect the Constitution and protect the people from a tyrannical Government.

This honestly gives me a lot of hope for a split in the military, if not showing that the military actually isn’t all that loyal to Trump.

That will matter if things hit the fan.

    8. That’s interesting. Who were the snipers shooting rubber bullets at peaceful protesters in Portland?

I think this is all going to blow up in trumps face. At least Hitler had the military in his pocket and the germany had a great economy.

      Fucking fuck.

The actual play is to send in out-of-state NGs from pro-dictator states to backup ICE while homestate NGs defend the protesters from authoritarian abuse, thus ensuring a real civil war.

I sure hope I’m wrong. Fuck.

    11. Wouldn’t it be great if peaceful protests grew and grew and Trump sending the NG became the very thing that let people protest against him safely?

That’s their duty and I’m proud of him that he at least acknowledged that.

Wouldn’t that be something if those men and women had their backs to the protesters? That would really be something.

This is very good news as this is what every National Guard and US Military position should be. But, if I am following this correctly, it plays out as federally deployed Texas National Guard troops and Oregon National Guard troops potentially squaring off against each other and that has the potential to go very off the rails in a civil war sort of way.

That could be how the seemingly inevitable starts.

    15. If Trump invokes title 10 and federalizes the ONG he will no longer be part of the command structure.

    16. This should embolden people to (as much as possible peacefully) protest because it makes people have to choose sides.

The National guard has a dual purpsose: defending the nation and protecting the citizens. It’s about time they focus on thr latter.

Welp he’s gonna find himself fired and replaced with some new Trump ballsucker. He should have known better than to say stuff like this so publicly.

Even if he keeps his job, everyone talks big until the actual order comes in. I’ve known many people who complain about their assigned duties being bullshit and not wanting to do them, but then doing them anyway when their boss shows up to direct them.

When I was young, impressionable and in the Army, I figured all these flag officers were tough, smart and patriotic.
