> What does Mulaney love most about being sober? “When I go to the doctor and I have problems, we don’t have to kind of tiptoe around the minefield,” he says. “It’s like I say, ‘I’m urinating a lot at night, I have some numbness in my left hand.’ We don’t have to then discuss whether it’s all of the cocaine, Adderall, opioids or alcohol. They’ll take you much more seriously at the doctor.”

My doctor sees me as a joke just because I eat an average of 7 hot dogs a day.
I just eat a bagel or something else for breakfast (usually a hot dog), then I take the train to work (sometimes I might have 1 or 2 hot dogs from the stand at the train station). I mean, this is all just breakfast, you know. And then I just go through my day at work where I’ll have a salad or something else for lunch (usually 1 or 4 hot dogs).
On second thought, 7 might be a little low.

Oh yeah that’s the truth. When I quit smoking, I got a noticeable jump in respect from doctors. Now that I no longer drink, they listen pretty damn carefully when I come in

Every time I look at John’s face these days, my eyes are drawn to his weird chin implant. I can’t even focus on what he’s saying.

So, as a woman to be taken seriously at the doctor I need to be a sober, rich male. Got it.

Its not that doctors dont take alcoholics or drug abusers seriously quite the opposite but the vast majority of medical complaints in a person that uses excess of drugs and alcohol are related to said drugs or alcohol (of course this is a generalization). The other issues is that many alcoholics dont tell me the truth about the usage and being lied to about by a person seeking my help doesn’t really foster a healthy dr patient relationship.

Fact! I’m sober 34 years now, and doctors love it.

I don’t see the point in non alcoholic beer. Do people really drink beer for the taste?

Oh to be a man and have doctors listen to you.
But in all seriousness, good on him for getting and staying sober!
