I expected it to be crass and gratuitous, but I didn’t expect it to be that far removed from reality and generally all over the place.
I felt like it was multiple ideas for a show spliced together which was jarring and uninteresting.
Also the accent lol.
Great performance by Charlie Hunnam but these “creative interpretations” are pure garbage. Just proves some filmmakers don’t have the skills to work with the available historical information.
The only reason I watched was because Charlie hunnam BUT I DIDNT NEED TO SEE THE MOTHER FUCKER TUCK HIMSELF

It’s really not a bad show. I’m three episodes in and think it’s pretty good. Why are people so obsessed with these shows having strict historical accuracy?
I was all set after the first episodes nude scene… got what I came for, thanks folks.
I watched the entire thing; appreciated the actor, but a lot was insanely ridiculous. Was really hoping for more facts and realism, not the stupid chainsaw chasing scene and too many bizarre parts with the girlfriend.
after watching the first episode and just seeing how they got so much stuff wrong I just had no reason to watch it anymore.
I’ve heard that Charlie’s vocal choices were accurate to Ed Gein’s real voice. All I could hear was Derek Zoolander, which turned it into a repugnant comedy for me.
They better not get the Albert fish series wrong, by gum.
I am more horrified of his horrible southern accent than I ever could be of the actual murders.
I’ll preface this with I don’t know much and never really knew anything about Ed Gein before watching this (and apparently still don’t given the reactions I’ve see ).
From what I do understand though, seems there’s always been a ton of “Hollywood” embellishment about him. He inspired all these classic horror movies, other serial killers were driven by him, and there has generally been a lot of mis-tellings of the actual story. It’s reasonable to think that through all of that, while in that time period, a lot of things were twisted and turned into some lore.
Again, not sure of the Hollywood history, but if all that embellishing really did happen….. maybe that was the point of the series? A commentary on the overall “legend” of the guy. A classic mis-telling of Ed Gein referencing all these embellishments and untruth that came before it. I mean he did kind of say at the end he didn’t need to write his story because everyone’s already made up enough and seems to know it better than him.
May be way off base, but I just finished it and am sitting trying to think of the point of this show…
I found it entertaining, but didn’t like the victimization of him. I get he was nuts, but he’s got a trail of victims himself and apparently inspired some of the most grotesque individuals to ever exist. Presenting him as someone to be sympathetic for and proud of seems dangerous to me. People can be redeemed, but is that how we want people remember or think of Ed Gein?

I’m really disgusted by this show and I’m surprised how many people it went through and still managed to make it onto my screen. From the writers to the producers to the actors they somehow convinced to act in it. Just, wow. That’s a lot of people that had to look at this and go, “yep! 👍 send it!” For it to be this fuckin’ deplorable.
I enjoyed it for what it was, the majority of people watching this aren’t going to know the historic accuracy, or even care.
Honestly, I loved this series. I really like how it pieced together his influence on pop culture movies, something I never knew about, but I knew about the films and killers mentioned. Everyone has their own taste, and I felt this was done well.
Null suspense, nor terror; fanboy homages + and lots of feme-hate (signature Ryan Murphy)
I think in the previous seasons on Monster there’s some form of ( weird given the subject matter) emotional bonding/draw to the main character-characters. I’m really just watching this and there’s nothing. It just gets a bit much – but I don’t feel any emotion at all except maybe for the babysitter. I think it’s a combination of the writing and the acting to be honest ( not that the acting is bad) to me it seems like a bad reboot of the Psycho series from a few years ago only it’s just not anywhere near as good. At this point I’m just watching to see what happens but don’t care- and I really can’t remember the last time I continued to watch something that made me feel nothing. I definitely see why they wanted to do Ed Gein but this has really missed the mark in my opinion.
Without spoiling it, I think the finale was utterly garbage and extremely disrespectful towards the victims he killed. He was a monster, trying to force you to feel bad for him is absolutely ridiculous.
I couldn’t believe the ending where it almost seemed to be earnestly celebrating his legacy and impact on pop culture.
Is this too scary?? Or like bloody? ???
In Ryan Murphy’s world, Richard Speck has great tits and Ed Gein has a great ass . . .
There isn’t enough ‚real story‘ to make an 8 episode season. Having parts of the show focus on the movies he inspired was an interesting way of padding out the run time – but the way they did even that was disjointed and uninteresting.
Padding it out even further with imagined victims, fantasy sequences and dark comedy was abhorrent.
I would have tolerated this show if the Alfred Hitchcock storyline didn’t exist.
