Yes. Old Tbilisi is beautiful and unless we restore it to preserve the original aesthetic it will eventually fall apart and get rebuilt as an ugly neighborhood like vazha
My wife and I first came to Tbilisi in 2016 and we totally fell in love with Pur Pur on Gudiashvili Square (as well as each other, we only met about 3 weeks before).
But the square was a mess and when we moved back here in 2022, we saw Pur Pur was closed so we never went back to that square (we’re not down in the old town often anyway).
But a few weeks ago, we ended up wandering up there almost by accident and we were shocked by how it looked. The renovation is incredible and it’s kept the old, classical feel but mixed in some brilliant modern buildings with it. It’s so nice.
It’s clear that all the talent and ideas are here to do brilliant renovation like this so I hope they can find the money to do more.
Depends on the cost, some buildings are also beyond repair
I would vastly prefer something beautiful like Prague than a bunch of dilapidated, crumbling, and graffiti-coated houses.
