I wish you labeled a few outlier states or colour coded by region or income so that maybe we could draw other inferences.

    3. I feel like this should be income adjusted. The sunbelt is generally poorer, especially vs the northeast of the US.

    4. it is scientifically proven sun exposure does in fact correlate to happiness. This is a ridiculous claim lmao

    5. I hard disagree with this from personal experience. I could never live in a place like Seattle where it is cloudy all the time. I love that sunshine! It definitely makes me happy

This is a really good example of why it’s hard to publish negative results. The title is incorrect, as it overgeneralizes from one data source to all of reality. Several have commented on this not corresponding to published findings and intuition that sun has a positive impact on mood.

Failing to find an effect is not proof of the lack of effect.

They should normalize for comfort of the sunny weather and maybe a few other big factors

    8. Average over a whole state for sunshine and for happiness. Meaningless. This data is not beautiful just tedious. (It’s sunny today as I comment, but i need to include bad graphs in my mood correlations.)

    9. Show us by current day. What if people have higher mood variation in sunny places? What if they feel especially worse on not-sunny days because they’re used to the sun, so the average gets dragged down? Also what about hedonic treadmill? What happens when someone from an un-sunny place is brought to a sunny place, do they receive a temporary boost to long term happiness until it falls back to baseline?

We gotta science the shit outa this.

    10. Maybe its the general vibe in the US, to not be happy and sun aint helping?
