A German mayor was stabbed outside her home on Tuesday and is in critical condition.

Iris Stalzer, the newly-elected mayor of Herdecke was found seriously injured by her son, Bild reported.

The 57-year-old told her son that several men attacked her in the street and she was stabbed in her stomach and back, reports said.

Apparently, it might „simply“ be a domestic dispute. There are reports that her stepdaughter tried to attack her with a knife this summer. They just arrested her stepson. The kids were also the ones who informed the police and told them that it was an act of „robbery“ in the streets.

EDIT 1: The police is now also questioning the stepdaughter and took her to the precinct to secure evidence.

**EDIT 2: The police officially announced that the crime was committed inside the family’s home and not on the streets. Furthermore, they stopped their search for other potential perpetrators as they assume that it was the 17-year-old adopted daughter (not stepdaughter) who committed the crime.**

It’s insane to me that such a thing could happen in our small town. I really hope she‘ll make it through this. It’s such an awful situation.
