Denmark is gonna raise the only sane next generation. Smart investment.

I think this is good, honestly I support not giving children smartphones in general. A dumb flip phone is fine if you just need a way to communicate with them.

Yeah cool not that it will idk stop under 15 year olds from using social media but apart from that brilliant idea for sure

How do you enforce this without breaching privacy od adult individualan?
Seems like a stupid idea.
Instead of parents saying no phone,no social media to their kids government is using it as an excuse to create tyrannical laws that will be used for everything but this issue.

Nice. Kids can find social media in RL.

Debby downer time: This is bad for the state of the Internet, pushing boundaries for the protection of children has always been the first step towards bad stuff. First they ban kids because it’s not safe for them, then they ban it for everyone because it’s against the belief

social media has really removed people’s filters in the real world as well, everything is just meaner

> Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen did not specify which social media networks would fall under the ban, nor how it would work in practice.
I’m in principle in accord, but the devil is in the details. Especially if this means age controls that require an ID check, which is ripe for surveillance and privacy breaches.
Are chat apps allowed? What about online games with chat rooms and ways to be ‚friends‘ with people? What about online forums? What about comment sections? What about streaming platforms? Or image or video sharing platforms, like Youtube? I used all those before the age of 15, but admittedly that was in the 90’s and 2000’s when the internet was far more innocent. It’s the algorithmically-driven, endless-scrolling, ad-infested, engagement baiting, content machines that are the real issue, IMHO.

I can see a possible backfire in that it would make engagement and social media apps forbidden fruit, which of course is extremely tempting to teenagers. I’m not sure if that is worse than the current situation but for certain social media is really detrimental to teenagers in young people’s mental state.

I don’t trust laws like that. How do you define social media? Is youtube social media? It has shorts, it has comments, all the things other social media sites have. But if you block it completely then kids will also lose a huge amount of learning videos. You have tutorials for everything on there.
The other reason I don’t like it is that everyone will have to present their id online and that’s going to be a big pain in the ass. Will they store your private data? Record what sites you visit? Will hackers be able to steal all that info? Will the government be able to use ai to parse through your website usage and flag you for watching inappropriate videos?

We should copy this **but also** pass a law to prevent parents from exploiting their kids as part of their channel.
There are 4yo, 7yo, 12yo influencers out there, as sickening as it sounds.

Many people are saying this sounds good, but it kind of sounds like a pretext for having people bind their real identities to their social media to me. Like, how are you going to verify you are over 15?

I get why Denmark wants to protect young teens, but banning social media completely feels pretty extreme. Kids need safety, but also a chance to learn and connect responsibly.

so the real age limit will be 13, since kids will push hard for their parents‘ consent, if all their peers use it. And if they want it before, they will probably find a way around it. Don’t underestimate the tech savyness of the generations to come.
