Almost all stones used, are from the Acropolis itself, minimizing the use of new material as much as possible.
When a block or piece is missing or too damaged, they replace the missing parts with new Pentelic marble, which is the same type of marble originally used in the 5th century BCE. This marble still comes from Mount Penteli, north of Athens just like in ancient times.

Zagreb Cathedral: You merely adopted the scaffold; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already scaffolded again, by then it was nothing to me but blinding.

crazy talk, I know, but what if… y’all just built a new one? Caryatids and all?
maybe make it bigger… I mean, it’s the idea that’s beautiful, just carry it out fully is all I’m saying, give people something to really go wow at… no need to celebrate the abrasion of centuries, after all

The British Museum needs to return the Elgin marbles.

Fun fact, it became a church in the 6th century AD and then a mosque in the 15th century AD, which was then destroyed by Greeks when they gained control over Athens.

Serious question- how does a monument like this even fall into disrepair? Like sure its old, but like people stilled lived in Greece for all this time. They may worship different gods but like didnt anyone think „hey the roof of our national monument is starting to break, let’s fix it“ and „wouldnt this be a fire church?“ ?????

Interesting.
Looks like they still have a ways to go.
