Spanish and Chinese researchers have found a way to restore the function of the blood-brain barrier, so it can clear out the sticky amyloid beta plaques that stop brain cells from communicating.
The blood-brain barrier is a “gatekeeper” that surrounds the brain, controls what enters and exits, and keeps out toxic substances, while allowing harmful substances inside to be cleared out.
Researchers tested the therapy in mice genetically programmed to produce large amounts of amyloid beta, which leads to significant cognitive decline, mimicking Alzheimer’s.

But it’s not the same thing is it? I mean there are already some treatments avaliable that clean up the beta amyloid plaque and although syntoms actually improve, it doesn’t reverse damage.
The ugly truth is that neurodegenerative diseases are caused by more than one thing.

I know someone working on their PhD in closely related study, right now. CRISPR modding antibodies to cross BBB.. they’re using gerbils rather than mice, but various dementia modes will yield to science soon. The drugs will need to be prescribed very early to get reversal of disease in humans though.
