What if marshmallows made you lose weight?

It depends on who likes Marshmallows, and who wants to kill them for being out of place.

That’s OK, there’s a magic timewarp to take you back to the pre healthcare age of no medical treatment.

      It’s called MAGA…

Sure, you probably spent most of your life doing back-breaking labor and you’d likely die from some horrible disease in your mid-30s, but would that be worth it to be uneducated about what’s going on in the world?

    4. Life wasn’t good for natives or blacks at the time, we know that.

You could be shot for being off reservation or enslaved.

    5. Nobody would truly want to be here before the porcelain thrones for all time 😁

“[T]he Party member, like the proletarian, tolerates present-day conditions because he has no standards of comparison. He must be cut off from the past, just as he must be cut off from foreign countries, because it is necessary for him to believe that he is better off than his ancestors and that the average level of material comfort is constantly rising.”

I’ll bet people weren’t ignorant of how hungry they were how cold and dark it was.

And how they would die from a small accident and infection.

I like to fiddle with graphs and I have an eschatological viewpoint of where value arises, and I really have to say the best time to be alive is on Halloween

    9. The best time was the 80s before AIDs and they started poisoning the coke supply.

It was definitely objectively worse by every modern metric but I wonder if pre agricultural men ‘felt’ better about stuff in a way like the chemical or hormonal balance in peoples bodies might’ve just been better and more natural

Eh. We can take a pill now to cure the bubonic plague. Not so much back then

No a/c, no modern medicine, no modern dentistry, modern surgery, drinking water was suspect, diarrhea was deadly, the rich still oppressed the poor, living in fear of god, etc.

I mean what specific year and country do you want to time travel back to because that also matters a hell of a lot.

    13. Yeah a great time to be alive when diarrhea could kill you, the neighbors grass is Always greener.

People on reddit always talk about medical and technological advances as to why modern times are better than older times but you don’t really hear much about the things we’ve had to give up for them. It’s my opinion that people *vastly* overestimate how beneficial the medical and technological advances are in the context of overall life satisfaction on the community level, while *vastly* underestimating how beneficial smaller communities that put little value on wealth and social hierarchies are for overall life satisfaction of those communities.

I’m not talking pre-industrial, I think the golden age of humanity is pre-civilization.
