We should create a constitutional convention for just the anti-Trump blue states, to put forward a prototype for a new type of American government for a post-Trump country.
It should include a specific list of abuses by the Trump administration, acts of cruelty, that should be redressed, and abuses by the supreme court, such as Citizens United, that should be voided by states adopting the compact.
It is time for We the People to declare abuses as serious as those set out by Thomas Jefferson and others in the Declaration of Independence.

We should at least wait an election cycle before calling it quits and creating a new country.

Project 2025 is chomping at the bit for a Constitutional Convention; this plays right into their hands. If we had a normal functioning democracy this would be welcome to codify some rights we have taken for granted, but this is endgame for the destruction of country as things stand.

Why not start with declaring a state of emergency due to ICE shooting, body-slamming and terrorizing innocent people?
Tell people to stop going outside and to blame Trump for it. People have to be personally affected in order to want something to change.

Enact state laws to make many of ICE’s activities criminal, then arrest them on the grounds of violating state law for reasons that are outside of federal purview. Arrest them and let the courts decide while drawing out time.
Do the same for the guard.
Make people second guess following orders.

Agreed. Before the nation can move forward we need to reiterate what each branch may, and more importantly- may not, do.
I’m only interested on policy concerning how to protect Americans from their government without regard to aligning with a current regime.
This will be addressed and redressed.

Sounds like a legit idea to me. And to all the nay sayers, you are still holding onto the delusion that the Republicans will halt themselves and play fair. They are not.

Cool I need to move to a blue state… sounds like things might get more crazy soon, these red state fascists have lost their minds.
Even if it isn’t a notice of sucession thats what these republicans will for sure try to paint it as and things could get dicey.

Sooner rather than later please. Do we really want to live out our entire lives under a fascist regime? The Trump Republicans have already taken American life downhill for an entire decade! Make them obsolete.

More commentary and no action. How about politicians start doing something other than deepening their pockets while Americans suffer?

Most of the blue states have pretty cautious leadership. I think their energy would be better spent ensuring that the 2026 midterm elections go forward smoothly.

Sounds like we’re going in the direction of splitting the country into conservative vs liberal. I know we should strive in keeping the country together but these people live in an alternate reality. Why not let them live amongst themselves? Maybe then they’ll get a wake up call.

Maybe this isn’t the right thread but what is project 2025 going to look like prior to trump leaving for America? Like what’s the outcome we should be expecting? I keep thinking it’s like the handmaids tale or something? I never watched the full show but I doubt that the world would get that far.

The problem with escalations like this is what comes next. They will always fail without knowing how to respond to the crackdown. If a statement is the end of their goal, it’ll be weaponized against them to no gain. The Declaration didn’t come at the beginning of the conflict, it came after they had teeth to back up their statements.

There damn sure better be a plan for when the GOP decides the country is in a state of emergency so no peaceful transfer of power in 2026. It’s either something like this or shady backroom deals among officials looking out for themselves.
At very least blue states should declare that going forward continued violation of rights and naked corruption (up to and including another Jan 6th) will result in a blue state Constitutional defense convention.

Food for thought as well……since Congress is shut down does clause 3 not also give the states rights to activate troops such as the national guard to oppose invading forces ( let’s say for example troops from another state who are invading illegally).

This is a great article, but it misses on one of the very important aspects it actually addresses, funding. Most blue states subsidize the red states by paying far more into the federal government than they get back. If the federal government is going to withhold funds to these states, which it is and has been, then the states should declare reciprocating circumstances and stop sending federal revenue so they can set up this sort of interstate compact. Imagine how much extra money would be on hand if California didn’t have to send it’s federal revenue to DC and could use it? I’m all for it. Especially as this nation starts to deteriorate further and further with fascist occupation across many aspects of state life.
