Its ironic that the „journalist“ who reported this didn’t check their facts.

Nobody has been hired to do this. Existing officers already in a post have been „appointed“ as specific points of contact for journalists. The police do it for many groups like wildlife, religious or business groups.

Journalism is a dying profession anyway. At best you get a reporter trying to work a click bait title to generate advertising revenue clicks.
