Tax property. Don’t tax the things that can move, tax the things that can’t. There is so much wealth tied up in estates, you can recapture a lot of money.
The argument I hear the most against it is that „the rich will flee the country“. It makes sense on paper but we don’t know that it’s true yet. I’m for the tax, see how many ultra-rich can still make enough profits to stay, and see if it works out or not. It can always be removed later. Have some balls, try something. Cmon France.
We talk about 2%, fcs. 2%.

France can’t do this alone. It’s counterproductive. It has to be done Europe-wide (including the UK and other tax havens). Otherwise it’s useless if they have a place to hide.
So the signal is to invest in US and move money out of France?
Yes, sure, every country should close tax loopholes and start taxing the super-rich and big corporations which – for all practical purposes – are paying hardly any taxes. But France is also playing *’The floor is getting our excessive spending under control!’*
You’re not magically fixing a roughly 5% of GDP budget deficit (about €150 bn.) with the €5 to €20 bn. (the latter an overly optimistic estimate) that a projected wealth tax would generate annually in France.
Leftists are constantly pretending that we could run a paradisiacal state with perfect healthcare, social benefits, education and housing if only we taxed the rich properly – that’s wishful thinking.
France had a socialist president from 2012 to 2017. Did he not pass such taxes or were they repealed?

Basically France is a country on the ropes, the boomers have left the country with a huge pension deficit.
The solution:
Tax the few productive people a shedload more.
Hard to see how this will end well, people doing nothing demanding money from companies and people working. I’m selling products in France and the country is having a terrible time.
Socialism is always great until you run out of other people’s money.
The only future for Europe is people working, not extra taxes. The days of La Dolce Vita, retirement at 55, are in my opinion almost behind us.
What’s next is democracy at play, either they will push taxes up and create decline and a terrible future or they will choose work and freedom and Europe will thrive. I think in France the non-productive are close to a majority and they will gladly see the country burn before they give up their handouts.
