I wonder how hard it is for world leaders to hold their tongues when they’re in a meeting with this known pedophile.
It went fine last time, but I hate these scenes.
It’s just a song and dance for the cameras where Trump makes a comment about Annexing us, and Carney says ’no‘ and handles it like an adult.
This isn’t funny, and I don’t particularly care if Americans don’t think an invasion will actually happen. This is not ok, and it’s screwed up that we are supposed to just take being threatened by an ally.

The fact that Carney – who has a PhD in Economics from Oxford – can sit there with that moron blabbing on about things he has no idea about and hold his tongue makes me really proud he’s our PM.

What’s Next? Trump will tariff Canadian Sports teams or disqualify Canadian teams to play in national leagues. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is one of his next moves.
The meeting will go fine, Trump will say good things about Carney and Canada, then will immediately return to bashing us and parroting 51st state rhetoric in a few days.

After just 6 months as PM, Mr. Carney is doing pretty well dealing with Trump realpolitik. We have three plus more years of dealing with The Donald, so do not envy our PM having to sit in the Oval Office. He reps Canada and duty calls. Good luck to all of us.
What even is the point? Trump with tout huge changes, loads of money changing hands or he will attempt to extort your country, with meaningless deadlines and threats. If i were Canada I’d just ignore him and move on.

Some of the stats cited in the article are a bit out of date. Although I don’t have the link at my fingertips some data out in September indicated that export trade to America had reduced to about 67/68% of total exports, ~~and that total exports had not actually declined in value~~.
**EDIT:** I found the data on the [CAD govt website](https://international.canada.ca/en/global-affairs/corporate/reports/chief-economist/quarterly/2025-q2).
* There was an **18.7% drop in exports to America** in Quarter 2.
* There was a **14.7% increase in exports to non-US destinations**.
* **Total Value of all exports has increased by 1.6% YTD**
Canada had approval 2 days ago to make a large military purchase (26 HIMARS systems plus a great quantity of various types of missiles – contract about 2.5 billion) and I have to think Carney will use that as leverage in discussions with Trump.
Certain very specific sectors such as softwood, aluminum and a few others are impacted by Trump tariffs. But those tariffs may not survive depending on the decision of our Supreme Court in the November appeal. Trump’s tariffs were ruled illegal at 2 lower court levels. His SC appeal is essentially „I know they are illegal but if you uphold the constitution I am in trouble financially“ which if anyone else tried this we would be kicked to the curb.
If Trump wins his appeal the constitution is dead, the basis of the American Republic is dead and we have a de facto empire and emperor with no checks and balances. At that point Canada and everyone else will have much greater concerns than a trade agreement.
BTW, a lot of misinfo on USMCA. The review does not mean USMCA cancels tomorrow. USMCA is in place until 2036. The review is for determining whether it continues past that date and negotiating changes to it that would ordinarily commence in 2036. Anything Trump negotiates, even if choosing to allow USMCA to expire, can be overridden by the next administration.

Carney has been very smartly buying us time and putting the US on the backburner. They’re unreliable at best and straight up dangerous at worst.
He’s been making a ton of deals with lots of other countries and diversifying our trade so that we have a bit more of a security blanket without the US, and maybe if and when we go back to the negotiating table we’ll be able to negotiate from more of a position of power.
Hope it goes smoothly and Carney shuts Trump up if he needs to.
