    1. Is that the same Kemi Badenoch who claimed working in McDonalds made her „working class“?

The same Kemi Badenoch who claimed she got a free scholarship, then had to admit she was lying?

Yeah, something tells me not to care what Kemi Badenoch has to say anymore.

Why do these parties think they need to have stupid decisions just because they’re on the right? What happened to the old right?

    3. LopsidedLegs on

So you can’t leave ECHR, you have to leave the Council of Europe, so we would be joining Russia, and Belarus. Yep that is a sound plan Kemi.

People freaked out about Digital IDs, I wonder if the reaction to having all your rights stripped will have the same reaction. I doubt the Mail, Telegraph, Times, Express etc will condemn this, but will openly celebrate it.

I’m not sure if the *’Farage is right, please don’t vote for him’* messeage is going to work for the two main parties

      „Who even is she?“

I don’t think it matters what she says she’s doing.

Only something like 3% of asylum cases go in front of ECHR. And most of them lose.

The only two countries to leave ECHR were Greece after a military coup and the abolition of democracy, and Russia (because Russia).

ECHR has been used frequently by British people to protect their rights e.g

Victims of domestic abuse being absolved of the bedroom tax, ending the ban on gay people serving in armed forces, ending corporal punishment in Scottish schools, protection for journalists sources, police cannot keep samples of your DNA forever, provision of legal aid (famous Mclibel case).

If the ECHR is done away with then something very similar, almost identical will have to be put in place.

Much better to reform ECHR rather than abolish it IMO.

FFS the Conservatives are truly fucked.

      Labour is truly fucked.

Erm … Liberals ? No chance.

What do we do, because it is definitely not reform, unless you want ICE wannabes kidnapping you in your sleep.

      We are actually fucked.

Edit: Unless the style of government changes and we have an equal coalition of all parties achieving a certain number of seats. If implemented properly, it could make a balanced govt ?

    8. Is she just trying to make the Tories a Reform tribute act or what?

If she was actively doing her best to bury the Tories for good I wouldn’t be able to tell her how to do a better job of it.

    9. Wonder if it details how to deal with the Good Friday Agreement*. Only option I see is Irish Reunification.

      Edit: Fixed my typo

    10. Everytime a politician suggests leaving the ECHR you need to ask very loudly what exactly it is they want to do that the COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS is preventing them from doing… Because whatever it is, it probably breaches those BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS in some way.

I am sick of this race to the absolute bottom. Let’s be more and more hateful in the chance that someone might vote for us. Let’s forgo any hope about making things better when making things worse might win some power.

    12. ImNot_AnNPC on

What is with the Right’s wet dream of leaving the ECHR?? Absolute madness.

    13. EchoLawrence5 on

She could announce a million a month per household and a free unicorn at this point, she’s opposition in name only. Come next election half her party will be under Reform and the other half won’t be standing.

    14. Moron. What about GFA? The WA? Our current EU Trade agreement? All depend on our membership.

    15. Late_Pomegranate2984 on

A last ditch attempt to appeal to the more extreme right of her dwindling party. When will these people wake up to the fact that there is a silent majority in the centre ground who are becoming more and more disenfranchised? Leaving the ECHR WILL result in increased instability in Europe, the only winners there would be the vulture capitalists who are backing these morons. Them and Russia that is.

    16. Banana-train2131 on

The detailed and thorough review, which she had decided on the conclusion of before work began on it.

Tories are not a serious party.

    17. Psychological-Ad1264 on

That’s nice. I’m going to announce a plan to fly to the moon backwards.

Same chance of either of us being able to implement our plans.

    18. MuddlinThrough on

Plan? In what was is it a „plan“ if you’re not in government and have no hope to be?

The only way she can leave the ECHR is if she personally moves to a country which didn’t sign up to it

    19. What is it with the right wing wanting personal control of our human rights??

      What’s their real agenda?!

    20. LemonImportant7040 on

Pathetic, slow and unwilling. Mind you I don’t think that it is the right thing to do but if you are trying to defeat Reform on the right or at least convince a couple of the more liberal ones you are not only late but it feels forced.

Reform has had that as a policy since their foundation in 2022, now we are talking about ILR while the neo-conservatives are still stuck in 2022 talking points with this and cultural war gender nonsense ala Melodi.

Leave the ECHR and accept the limited human right Bad Enoch or the Fagash Fuhrer think we deserve?

I’m not sure that sounds good.

    23. SumptuousRageBait1 on

I actually think Kemi is doing a good job. The problem is it is simply not possible to revive the tories until a significant percentage of the electorate no longer remembers the shambles.

    24. Ooh look, the Conservatives are environmentally friendly – they’re recycling policies from nearly a decade ago!

Back during the Brexit days, they were proposing to replace the HRA and ECHR with a „British Bill of Rights“ which would disallow any cases being brought against the government or military, disallow foreign nationals or prisoners from bringing cases, and raise the bar for anything else to only allow the most egregious human rights violations to be brought to court (so, essentially, human rights law would exist on paper but not in practice).

    25. Fraggle_ninja on

So what? Come back and tell me what the manifestos and plans of other parties are nearer the next election.

    26. What’s the Tories plan when this fractures the Withdrawal Agreement and brings trade tariffs into the UK
