Well said. Not fashionable to agree with what a sitting Taoiseach says but anyway.

True . Going to vote for Connolly as I like her principles etc but she’s so naive on this issue. You can’t sit down and have a chat with Russia. European rearmament is the only way.
There is ‘naivety’ in Ireland that if we whine about this threat far away on the other side of the continent , the public will get distracted by this bullshit of defense spending than spending on public infrastructure, housing and healthcare.

He isn’t wrong. Alot of people have no idea the true threat of Russia, it isn’t their military, nor is it promoting communism, it’s promoting the far right. They’ve been funding agitators all over the west for 2 decades now, multiple far right parties and politicians have been found to have russian funding, trumps elections are well known to have had help promoting him with russian bot farms, they had a hand in pushing Brexit, frances and germanies far right parties have both been discovered to have funding from them. Russia isn’t trying to conquer most of us, they are trying to destabilize us.

If anything there is very hard nosed realism. We essentially don’t have an armed forces because for UK & USA to allow Russians to fly over Ireland and run patrols around the Irish Sea is intolerable to them. They also have to fly around the Scandinavians who also have excellent airforces
