      Yawn, it’s so satisfying watching russia try to act tough when Ukraine has proven to the world that their country is a bunch of insecure cowards who can even win a war with their much smaller neighbour

      Why would we be afraid? 4 years ago we learned that despite the prevailing idea that Russia’s military was the second most powerful in the world, they weren’t even the second most powerful in Ukraine. And with Ukraine striking within Russia, we’ve learned that the Russian military is the second most powerful military within Russia itself.

      Hell, if they even have working nukes, I’m pretty sure they don’t have enough to cripple the West before Putin’s bunker is a radioactive pit.

      Maria Zakharova is the official propaganda mouthpiece for the Kremlin. She’s like the Russian Karoline Leavitt. She also did not say „a new fiery conflict has begun“, she said “ there is fire here.“

      This is meant entirely for internal consumption, and she most likely said that because „we are at war with NATO“ sounds a lot more palatable than „our 3 day SMO led to you having no gas this winter also your son is dead.“

      This is propaganda meant for Russian ears.

      Inflation in Russia is reported as >8%, there’s shortages of gasoline in places, estimated 700,000 Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine, and much of Russia’s economy has been redirected towards furthering war aims (**not** producing consumer goods or things for export… that generates income).

      Russian government has to justify all this pain to their population: both very physical suffering of soldiers, pain of families who are separated at least temporarily, if not permanently, and the lesser but relevant economic issues caused by war.

      Russia has been doing shit in Western countries for fucking years without any real response and as soon as there is even the slightest response they whine like a bully that got punched. About time they got some back. It’s the only thing they seem to understand.
