Appeasing US is the only way forward for Taiwan. Otherwise the US won’t protect Taiwan.

Once chip production has moved away, then US has no incentive to protect Taiwan unless they offer something back in value.

At this point, Taiwan can choose to lose protection now, or lose protection later.

God damn. I may not like having a child trafficking pedophile as president but he sure is kicking ass on these deals. NOT. I wish I could laugh at this shit.

    3. GNSasakiHaise on

      Oh, how surprising.

Whyever would Taiwan, famously indispensable for their chip production, not want to take this deal?

Honestly, it’s better not to let the US into your house. They come with gifts, but they always try to steal your stuff on the way out.

🇹🇼 strong. Fuck the negotiators trying to strong arm them. You want to tariffs the chips, then there are plenty of other buyers out there. In the end, the US ends up shooting themselves in the foot

It just seems like extortion, except that the US has no real leverage. If the US stops protecting Taiwan, China wins and the consequences are felt for decades.

Heat happens next is, Trump will start to coerce them by saying something like “if China invades, we won’t protect you”.

Mafia protection, once you let them in, you can’t get them out, and they’ll keep asking for more or threatening you. Might as accept China at that point

Taiwanese govt would have had to have rocks in their heads to agree to it.

it smells very much like the Korean denial of „donating 350B“ to US treasury. All those „trade deals“ that sounds good simply does not work.

    11. Why would they let go of 50% of the reason the US and rest of the world would come to protect them?

    12. saumanahaii on

…could they even do it if they wanted to? Getting chip factories up and running is absurdly expensive and time consuming from what I’ve heard. There’s a reason why there’s so few advanced ones out there.

DONT. The moment Don the orange has your highest node production tech in the US; he will pull a Zelenskyy to your president in the oval office.

    14. Hopeful_Cat_3227 on

Maybe they can directly ask whether Taiwan want to be a part of U.S….

    15. Independent_Foot1386 on

Who would? The USA just doesn’t want China to have 100% of the chip production after china invades.

    16. Good for them. Nobody should negotiate with the United States until they get their country back.

    17. With this corrupt, no empathy having administration they would just go & cut off Taiwan once they were capable of their own production. Basically leaving them to fend for themselves in the Pacific.

As a result, Trump will likely threaten to not back Taiwan when China invades, encouraging China to take the island sooner than later.

Why would they agree to give up their silicon shield and biggest bargaining chip? Any self proclaimed master deal maker would know. Unless they are no deal maker at all.

    20. Over time. US will make more chips. More circuit boards, more devices. Human touch is hardly necessary. Think again Taiwan. Trump is a nasty mf. Haven’t you noticed?

US operating like the mafia, “protection” to Canada, Ukraine, Taiwan, for Resources

No one in their right mind wants to do business with convicted criminals who’ve consistently scammed their business agreements.
      It’s that simple.

    23. maincoonpower on

      Smart move I guess.
Now it can go it alone fighting China. This is gonna be very interesting.

    24. This is the same type of shit russia pulled on ukraine over the nukes promised to protect them then invaded them afterwards anyways

    25. Square-Ambassador-92 on

For a moment, you might be able to trust China and Russia, but the USA is the most unreliable partner—it tries to blackmail others. Just look at how it is treating its all-weather allies: Canada, Australia, and Europe.

Today they’re demanding chip, tomorrow they might as well demand ransom for ‘protection.’
