Fuck him but it’s the first actual plan that is halfway reasonable. You don’t be a con man without conning mother fuckers. Let him con them.

If the guy actually somehow gets Hamas to disarm, Isreal to pull out of Gaza and the Arab states to pay for the security in Gaza…I don’t know its hard to believe honestly, but despite how much I don’t like Trump, if he manages to actually get this done…fuck it just give him the Nobel.

Performative politics at it’s best. Even if they do accept, it won’t last. Israel isn’t willing to accept anything less than regime change, and Hamas isn’t going to go peacefully.

Who was the source? John Barron?

>A diplomatic source with knowledge of the talks told CBS News that an Egyptian official and the Qatari prime minister had provided Hamas representatives with a copy of the proposal.

Glad to see more countries, along with Israel and the US, being on board.

What? Last I read they were entirely against the deal because they see it as defeat.

is not like they have another choice, oh wait, there it is but it doesn’t end well for them.

– Hamas will agree to release all the hostages within 72 hours and give up their last bargaining chip (somehow manage to find all of them including ones held by other terrorist groups)
– Throw down their arms.
– Give control to Gaza to a rival group that they violently expelled from Gaza and will probably enact revenge.
– Have absolutely no part in the new government.
– Agree to a Palestinian state that recognizes Israel.
– Have Tony Blair play a major role (he is despised in Gaza)
Did anybody bother to ask Hamas what they think?

Smart move.
If they truly want the Palestinian people to be free, then this is the path.
It would be an improvement over what existed on October 6th.

I was so frustrated listening to northeast NPR round table discussing the proposal. Just bashing trump and Israel calling them criminals and how the deal does nothing for Hamas. They were so busy dunking on them they never even mentioned the people of Palestine. Personally not even choosing sides, this deal looks very good for the citizens and will end the suffering, plus it even allows amnesty for hamas fighters and has support of arab countries.

They won’t be able to return the hostages in 72-hours let alone guarantee the corpse is the right one. So this peace will last 1-week and it’ll be a full on Israel+USA attack it feels like

This is only about the 500th time I’ve seen this headline.
If anything, Hamas will use this as an opportunity to take a breather.
When the hostages are actually returned, then I’ll start considering believing it’s more than bluster.

I’d bet that that Hamas negotiators will request clarity and specifics to be added to the currently vague undefined timeline of Israeli troop withdrawal to the buffer zone and specific buffer zone size because that map released along with the plans looks like the buffer zone would occupy %20+ of the Gaza Strip. (And or strengthen the provision for Palestinian right of return for anyone that leaves the strip during reconstruction and wants to return later). The first West Bank settlements started as post 6-day war military outposts and they’d probably want to avoid that development and the creeping annexation and occupation that comes with it.
This will put the ball in Bibi’s court and he can decide to negotiate details and sign or claim that Hamas isn’t negotiating in good faith and scuttle negotiations again.
But it is very rare for expansive plans like this to excepted as is, we are probably in for tenuous rounds of negotiations that Bibi may put up a fuss about something or another and pull out of, basically showing face to trump but saying hey we tried but can I bomb and annex now.
badass_panda on
If history is any guide, here’s what happens next… „We accepted the deal!“ says Hamas two or three hours from now. „Israel refuses Trump peace deal!“ The BBC announces fifteen minutes later, failing to mention that Hamas „counteroffered“ with, „We won’t lay down our weapons or transfer political power or form a new government, but if you withdraw to the border and pay us reparations then we’ll return the hostages,“ which means they **refused the deal.** And then we’ll do this all over again in a few weeks.

I wish that people would stop saying „Trump’s ceasefire“. He is way too stupid to actually think of solutions, so you know it was his sycophants that came up with the plans.
