For people wanting to bark at the Liberals for being to blame, read the article. I’d specifically point out this quote:
> She [Information Commissioner Caroline Maynard] said the provision “is one of the most abused” in the **40-year-old act**, and she thinks it should be rewritten.
The abuse of the access to information law is systemic, it’s not an artifact of who has the most seats in the house. There were plenty of episodes during the Harper government where they blocked access to information.
That doesn’t absolve Liberals of having a duty to address the problems with the law. They should, and Carney has said, as quoted in the article, „he would commit to a review of Canada’s access to information regime.“ But we should be clear that this is a non-partisan problem.
