    1. Can you access the building’s water main? If yes, maybe inform the other tenants and turn it off for the first moment.

Is there an apartment above you?

Could even be a case for the fire department.

Edit: And you really want to wipe up that water on the floor before the floorboards soak it up and distort.

    2. Isnt there a emergency number you can call?
Seems Like it’s Coming from above, is there someone living above you? If yes, ask em if there is Water leaking aswell. If not you have no other choice but to close the Main Water line (in the basement somewhere) because a pipe is broken and to Call a plumper (there are plumbers working sundays) and forward the bill to your property Management.

    3. Leak appears from the apartment above yours or, if it is the case, the roof.

As this is a serious property damage your landlord must be informed immediately before taking any action. I strongly advice you to talk to your neighbors above, if you have any, as the issue is starting from their place and the plumbers will anyway need to enter their apartment.

Get ready for a couple of months of repairs at home, drying machine running 24/7 and Mietminderung.

If there is no emergency phone given, call landlord. They should get you emergency service. Because not doing anything will cause more damage and for delay you might even get responsible.

In case this isn‘t clear – this is pretty much an emergency, this cannot wait 🙂

Have you checked with the neighbor above you if they can localize the water damage? They need to cut their water supply of like now. If not possible, then the central water line needs to be cut off as soon as possible.

And I do agree, this might be a case for the fire department. It’s pretty massive. But try your landlord first!

    6. That laminate will swell up quickly, get that dry then do all other recommendations. This cannot wait until you reach the Hausmeister

    7. Somewhere in your house, often near the entry, should be a notice board listing emergency contacts that are available 24/7. Search for Hausmeister-Notdienst or Havarie or something like that

Talk to the neighbor above your apartment, as this seems to be coming from above. Also, there should be a emergency number from the property management. – maybe they gave you a handout with emergency contact details with your contract? Maybe there are contact details posted in the staircase? Possibly, a neighbor knows contact details?

You can certainly call a plumber yourself, but then you’ll need to foot the bill. And landlords tend to be a PITA when it comes to reimbursing these things (even though in many situations they’d be legally obligated to)
