People that are homeless aren’t the ones being detained.
Detaining isn’t the response to their suffering, it’s the response to keeping the community safe.
For and advocate they’re missing some critical thinking.
Its all political and the people demand it, so they are the politics they scream to hate ..
Theres thousands of people annually who cant get access to voluntary help for mental health and addictions .
These are the precursors of needing to be involuntary cared for , so we basically allow people to become so far gone before we help that we need to involuntary „help them“ .
We wont make beds for the willing, but will make them for the unwilling.. crazy
Im not agianst involuntary care , but let’s at least put a dent in voluntary first because the number of willing people being passed up is astronomical
This expert and advocate quoted in the article have lost the argument. The government tried it their way and failed spectacularly. I think most regular people will support involuntary care over continuing to repeat the mistakes of the past.
One thing that does raise concerns for me is hearing that these institutions are being run by for-profit firms. They should be publicly run and have very strong monitoring to ensure vulnerable patients are treated with dignity.
