      They should greet them with loving banners and free cookies. Instead of protest, do arts and craft festivals in the streets their honor. Just push back with how rediculous this whole thing is.

      I think Portland residents should try to sell the invading force snacks and souvenirs. Make a joke of their presence.

      I won’t be surprised if Trump is also going to spread the military / guard out over the USA to keep them occupied and away from DC to prevent a coup.

      Sure, there are a handful of people there now for sure. But more importantly, there will be a ton who aren’t.

      Born, raised and live in Portland. Of course trump is full is shit but more importantly this unconstitutional, un American and designed to consolidate trumps power. Even if you voted for him this should be condemned and if you support this then you are supporting the downfall of democratic society and its place an authoritarian state . In this new America where there won’t be “ red “ and “ blue” it will be those with power and those without.

      They want provocation, they are *begging* for an excuse to use force.

      Do.Not.Give it to them. Have what amounts to a massive block party. RECORD AND PHOTOGRAPH EVERYTHING.

      I just hope everyone understands that all it will take is one asshole to set all this off.

      If you live in an area that is predominantly democrat don’t think this won’t happen in your area, his objective is to get rid of everyone that isn’t loyal enough,white evangelical Christian nationalist male. This is going to get worse a lot worse and will more than likely come to a head during the election to scare democrats from voting. Republicans you will be next when he no longer needs your vote, the way he’s going it looks like he wants an altercation so he can declare martial law and stop the election.

      I think residents in Portland should consider welcoming the troops with open arms as strategy.

      Befriend them. Get to a point with open dialogue. Mention all the time how Portland is peaceful, that organizations like NewsMax always get it wrong, and that the only time there is really any violence is when thugs like the Proud Boys start crap. Wave around signs that flatter the military and dis Trump at the same time, like „Trump can fuck off, but those military hotties can stay <3“ or „Orange is out, but camos are in!“ Offer military discounts. Have the grade schools do pleasant cards for the soldiers.

      Methods like this are actually very effective into recruiting people in ideologies, and will achieve some very important psycho-social goals. Namely, soldiers who have been fed right-wing propaganda will definitely experience the dissonance from what they have been told and what they are seeing. That dissonance has the possibility of growing into a full blown rejection of the right wing. Also, if the military presence is only experiencing peace, soldiers will be out and spending money. This will provide a small boom to the city.
