I think it’s down to value. There is no value for tourists here anymore. Be you Irish or coming from abroad, everything, yes everything is too expensive
Oops we killed off the existing local activities with high insurance, killed off local tourism in many towns by converting the last hotel into a refugee centre, and pushed our prices above all competing countries in Europe for a worse experience. Also tourists don’t like hearing about how tourists get their teeth knocked out every week in Dublin. If only someone could have seen this coming.
Some of our hotels are otherwise engaged
€165 for a bed in a shared room with 5 others on Inis Óirr was way too much for me.
€8.80 for a pint, €20 for a bad burger, good luck getting a decent room for less than €150 a night b&b. For what? Temple Bar?
Rip off Ireland is alive and well
I assume the two main causes are the obscene cost quickly followed by hotels being taken over by the State for alternative accomodation.
No wonder with the price of a hotel room.
The basement level of accommodation has been taken out, shithole hostels have found a more profitable way to fill beds, I remember flying into dublin for a siblings white coat ceremony 2017, wasn’t bothered travelling home. Hostel bed was €16, minimum now is 50

im irish living in the netherlands and i see irish people visiting here all the time they tell me its cheaper to fly over to go out for the weekend then it is to go out in dublin especially and thats even after adding flights and accommodation
when there is a big international artist playing in amsterdam again its still cheaper to book a flight a hotel but the ticket for the concert and spending money then it is to attend a concert in dublin but amsterdam is also quite expensive
Well it’s also about supply and that’s been massively cut back as accommodation has been repurposed. Prices have risen as you might expect.
Understandable. I can’t afford to holiday in Ireland. Can spend 3 weeks in Greece for the same amount of a week in Ireland.
