Remember ALL these ancient cities were made of paper mache for the world fair. All of them. Even the ruins found under ground level. Nothing to see here. The same architecture style during the same period around the world? Also paper mache somehow.

See a lot of old half standing structures in Cuba still.

“Never” is a long time. Some of us may live long enough to see the current Cult of Ugliness dead, and architecture and art celebrating beauty being born again.

Well, we won’t.
Similar architecture will arise again, eventually, after the next collapse.

I actually studied classical architecture and love it. Once you study classicism, you will never look at buildings the same way again! You’ll be able to instantly look at a building and know if the designer is architecturally literate or illiterate too. Most modern buildings are architecturally illiterate, and there are *objective, mathematical criteria* to determine whether a building is literate or illiterate. They were actually devised thousands of years ago in Greece and Rome.
The real reason that modernism got big is communism combined with urbanization and the new, cheap building techniques.
Modern and post modern architecture has its roots in communism, like modern and post modern literature and art. Look it up if you dont believe me.
Personally, i think western architecture hit its peak in the „spring and summer“ of western civilization which spans from ancient Greek and Roman classicism through the renaissance all the way up to Beaux Arts, which actually used revolutionary iron frame construction along with classicism.

The fourth pic, is that a granary? Probably just as well it’s gone unless you maintained it as some sort of museum (and looking at it probably would’ve been worthy of preservation) because that thing is a massive fire trap. If it’s gone it’s probably because it burned down.

Man I think about this all the time seeing these unintentionally brutalist highway mazes…we have such tremendous resources if we’d only appreciate a little bit of form over function. These designs are not random…they’re a reflection of what value in creation. Everything is about the bottom line so we just get mounds of disgusting concrete pillars etc

Kind of funny including an old wooden Pennsylvania coal breaker in this post.. “ugh, gone are the days of child labor and dangerous energy production infrastructure- what a loss!”

The 4th one is a coal breaker plant. Yeah, I hope they don’t come back, horrific places to work that often employed children

Lol this is extremely out of touch. The fact that you included that industrial mine/grainery thing. Have you seen modern mines? Or graineries? Or oil refineries? They definitely couldn’t build those in the past.
