Bosch said Thursday that it planned to reduce its workforce by thousands of workers, particularly at its Bosch Mobility arm, in various stages by the end of 2030.
The cuts come in addition to 9,000 jobs that were part of a 2024 workforce reduction plan the multinational car-parts and technology company had put forward, of which 4,500 have already been eliminated.
As of Dec. 31, Bosch employed around 417,900 people, and it employs more than 200,000 at Bosch Mobility.
Bosch said layoffs and restructuring are a byproduct of the estimated 2.5 billion-euro ($2.9 billion) yearly cost gap in its mobility division. It blamed the cost gap on strained market conditions, heightened competition and difficulties penetrating markets with new technologies.
To reduce costs, Bosch said it would harness artificial intelligence’s potential productivity gains, specifically in areas like manufacturing and improving supply-chain efficiency.
This is about reducing headcount and increasing profits, same as all the others
There is no AI push anywhere. not even having loses and they are firing people left and right because they are not as profitable as they want. Problem is they never were as profitable as the target… so again this is HC redution without any major justification other than HC is expensive and mainly german HC is expensive.
They are creating a narrative that AI is to blame and not their greed.
The article says they employ 418,000 people. So if they do reduce headcount by 13,000 (which is likely not even attributable to AI), that’s a 3% reduction.
