    1. As an Iranian: he’s fucking lying, just FYI. That’s all these IR officials do. It’s like lying is in their fucking DNA. You cannot advance in the Islamic system as a woman without not only a hijab, but a full-on chador.

“I took very crystal clear positions in speeches that I gave in certain places in mosques, I clearly said this should not have occurred,” Pezeshkian said.“

[He also boasted proudly about closing down Ob/Gyn departments in hospitals after the revolution](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewIran/comments/1du5npc/comment/lbec6ke/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) (he was the head of a medical school in Tehran) because men being ob/gyn’s was awful and „against his beliefs“. Thus millions of women went without proper obstetric and gynecological care becaus of this guy’s „beliefs“.

„“Of course, each human life is priceless,” he said. But, „on a daily basis, hundreds of people are being killed in Lebanon, in Gaza, in all over Palestine, in Yemen and Syria, yet no one bats an eye? Why? These are less human beings?”

Yet again, the IR uses the suffering in Gaza as a way to deflect from their own crimes. This conversation is about Iran, but they make it about Israel. Always deflect. Always lie. Always deny.

Well IR regime relaxed their control over their people in recent years because the economy is down the drain so this is not so surprising. Hopefully this trend of loosening control will continue and these guys will not be replaced by displeased hardliners.

      IR people deserve much better

That’s nice, but I’ll bet the Ayatollah with true power will shoot that straight down.

The President is there so people actually think that they have a vote that matters. The Ayatollah and the religious arm of the government have far more power and outweigh him.

How much of a say does this guy actually have? Khoemenei is desiccated, I am told that it is likely that another theocrat will replace him instead of Pezeshkian.

Iran was liberalizing fast 10 years ago, but then Trump derailed all that when he stabbed those liberals in the back over the nukes deal. You want to know who hates Trump the most? The women of Iran.

    6. Islam is a controlling patriarchy regardless of this. Women will never be equal in Islam. Same for Christianity, and particularly the brand of Christianity that Trump is promoting. Thankfully it’s in decline along with his support.

    7. Feels weird to see Iran moving in the right direction (even if it’s very slowly) and the US moving in the wrong direction (very quickly).

    8. „a right to choose about the hijab“ … and be murdered because of hair.

    9. But…but…sexy hair is basically the same as exposed genitalia?!?! How can any red-blooded man resist?!?!?

      /s

    10. Choose to wear it or be tortured to death…. That’s liberty alright.

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    11. Women have the right to choose, but the Guidance Patrol (Gasht-e Ershad) has veto power.

Oh man, all these women hung in the streets , arrested, or abused would like to have a word, if they are still alive.

    13. Reminds me of that old 60 minutes interview with Rafsanjani from over 30 years ago. He was asked why Iranian youth are not allowed to mingle and the response was that it’s not true, if you go to a park in Tehran you’ll find boys and girls hanging out. Completely disregarding the fact that they’re doing that at the risk of getting beaten and detained by basij.

These shameless assholes even try to take credit for granting whatever freedom Iranians forcibly pry out of their cruel power-hungry hands.
