      Choice excerpts:

      > The office of Canadian Ambassador Bob Rae says he remained seated during Netanyahu’s address as dozens of diplomats from other countries walked out of the chamber.

      > The U.K. and the U.S. had lower-level diplomats attend the speech, The Associated Press reported.

      > In his speech, Netanyahu attacked the decision by multiple countries, including Canada, France and Australia, to recognize a Palestinian state.

      > “Your disgraceful decision will encourage terrorism against Jews and against innocent people everywhere,” he said.

      > He told fellow world leaders in a defiant speech that Israel “must finish the job” in Gaza.

      > Canada has taken part in UN walkouts in the past. In March 2022, just days into Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Canada’s foreign minister was part of a 40-country walkout in Geneva as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addressed two UN sessions.

So basically, we had a man who has an active international warrant against him for war crimes and crimes against humanity, representing a country that international consensus says is conducting a genocide in plain sight for the last 2 years, come and call us terrorist supporters while proclaiming to the world he’s not going to stop said genocide. It was a debacle even Israel’s most ardent supporters, the US and the UK, sent low-level staff to.

And yet, it didn’t occur to Mr Rae and GAC that perhaps his presence at this farce was a humiliation not just for him, but all Canadians.

      Shameful.

    2. Actually, to be honest, I feel like staying was the right thing to do. Hear me out

Canada has officially and publicly recognized the state of Palestine. Of course, this is angering Israel, but by staying in the room, Canada is indicating that it stands by its decision and does not flinch when bullied.

I feel that walking out of the room when you’ve just clearly indicated you were siding with Palestine, would look weak. When you’re not scared of a bully, you stand your ground even if that bully is spitting in your face.

      My personal opinion as a non-diplomat. 🙂

Canada, which was built on a foundation of colonial genocide of Indigenous peoples, has a long track record of supporting other colonial nations that were built on genocide.
