    1. Ford said speed cameras don’t slow people down. Instead, Municipalities with existing speed cameras will be required to „[install large new signs to slow down drivers](https://x.com/ColinDMello/status/1971238934706520364).“

Ford’s rationale is in conflict with „a study from SickKids this summer that found ASE cameras had cut speeding around Toronto schools nearly in half.“

When all is said and done. When the world returns to sanity. People like Doug Ford will be in prison. Once canadians start demanding actual leadership instead of this ‚look over there, beer!!!! While we steal from the public‘

      Privatization is theft.

    3. When the NDP was in power in Alberta they did a study and found photo radar only reduces collisions by 1.4%

“Our NDP government committed to ending the use of photo radar as a revenue stream,” said NDP Transportation critic Lorne Dach, adding its government study found photo radar contributed to a 1.4 per cent decline in collisions.

      Sure, whatever.

Let’s get more people killed on the roads. Insurance lawyers, emergency room doctors and a whole lot of others need work too. This will generate work. It’s all good. Also autobody shops. Don’t forget them!

Toronto needs to respond to this by turning all its streets with streetcar tracks into lanes that only allow streetcars & emergency vehicles. Paint those lanes red and set up cameras that send automatic fines to vehicles in them.

Something like only 16% of people traveling in Toronto are in vehicles but their cars cause traffic to be unbearable in this city.

I love getting downvoted for this.

Let’s get rid of speed cameras but keep the radars.

      No tickets. No revenues.

Link the radars to red lights, and stop the speeder. Use their speed to time the red light.

If speeders then start blowing the lights, put up red light cams and fine then for that. Sure.

In places without intersections with stoplights, put up a railway crossing arm. A “speed deterrent arm”.

Annoy these idiots into compliance. An immediate negative and certain consequence is very effective.

It’ll annoy all of us for a bit, sure, but that’ll stop as people change behaviours.

This guy is a master, absolute savant, when it comes to retail politics.

Takes something most everyone hates, speed cameras, and bans them. Does it solve housing or healthcare? No. But it’s flashy, broadly supported, and pits him as the defender of the common folk.

Why can’t the NDP or LPC do this? Sure, they cannot „do it“ as they are not the government. But they could have promised it, and then piggy back off of Ford doing it.

I don’t like Ford, but by god, give the man his flowers

The fact that Ford himself passed the legislation that allowed speed cameras in the first place is literally buried in the last sentence of the article. The media is playing into Ford’s hands by running with this framing of the issue.

    9. Does it apply to red light cameras too? Honest question.

Also already issued fines that have not been collected, are dismissed?

    10. It’ll be interesting to see if any civil society org or a municipality files for a s.7 Charter injunction to halt the removals of the speed cameras, based on the precedent set in the recent *Cycle Toronto* case.

    11. I don’t get this guy. He’s always banging on about law and order, but I guess it’s okay with him if people break some laws. Like speeding. And destruction of public property. He seems to want to make Ontario Open For Poor Choices. Wouldn’t the smarter thing to do be to crack down on the criminals destroying these cams?
