If this trust really does pay 6% of £9B every decade, I’m fine with that.

And obviously all the rental income from renting out half of westminster will be charged at 45% tax to the government.

However, I have a sneaky feeling that a million loopholes will be used and the total tax bill will be nearly nil.

If you have the right amount of money, there are no consequences.

This isn’t news. Wealthy families have been using trusts for years to avoid IHT.

Please remember this when the council comes after your nan’s bungalow.

Given his bank the ol‘ Duke didn’t go down the Jeff Bezos Route. Still, not a bad pull.

So I lived in Chester where the Duke of Westminster owns a tonne of stuff and lives nearby and I’ve met the old duke a few times before he passed away.

I’m pretty chill with these guys having wealth. They are my friends landlord and when he couldn’t work during Covid they just suspended rent. Similar for a local bar; if they couldn’t open they had no rent to pay.

The local kids park was looking a bit overgrown and someone emailed estate asking for help cutting it back. Instead they refurbished and landscaped the whole thing for nothing, and still come back often to keep it tidy.

They do a tonne of charity stuff too – I know they saved local homeless and mental health charities when they were about to hit the wall.

Basically I prefer these guys to have money than, say, Elon musk.
