I mean, he’s not british. You’d think his name would be the first clue.

My favorite Cillian Murphy story was when he pulled his kids out of their London school and moved back to Ireland because they were starting to sounds like posh Londoners. The man is Irish through and through

to play devil’s advocate here, cillian was in a popular british show and played a british character from the same town tom is from. obviously he should’ve known because he’s such a well known actor, but i think this was a genuine mistake and not purposefully labeling an irish person as british. still though, i understand why people are offended because it’s not something you do, but mistakes happen. I’ve watched the whole interview for this and it was a more fast paced type question where they asked him about a british icon. i feel like his thought process was peaky blinders is an iconic british show, and cillian’s the lead. he said in the same interview that he didn’t want to be attacked because he didn’t believe in zodiac signs, so i don’t think he meant offense. plus, he plays an irish immigrate and he’s only referred to him as being irish, not british.

    4. I know it was a fuck up but I also think he’s an American icon. Seems like everyone loves him, even the Irish and they hate everyone.

Maybe he meant he’s an icon IN Britain rather than an icon FROM Britain? 🤷🏻‍♀️ kinda like how people will call Liza Minnelli and Madonna gay icons?

    6. I know for a fact most Americans do not know the difference between English/ Welsh/Scottish vs British.

And technically from a geographic standpoint Ireland is considered a British Isle.

This man moved his family back to Ireland because his kids were developing posh British accents. Calling him a British icon is definitely an insult to him.
