They should probably increase the license fee to ensure that RTE talent is sufficiently compensated to account for the cost of living increases. We don’t want to risk any of the Fair City cast defecting to HBO or the BBC.
Ah the RTE boom could be back
Finally, some good news. The lads have the ship back on course. Well done all
300k doesn’t sound crazy for a director general in charge of everything
Sure the traitors was good, why doesn’t he deserve it
Would it be too much to ask for more League of Ireland matches shown on our State broadcaster
They are quickly burning through that three quarters of a billion bailout the taxpayer gave them last year. No sign of the promised reforms though. Strange that….
This sub sure loves unnecessary public expenditure waste.
Ah enough time has passed I see. The country has healed from the previous pay scandal. Let the grift and excess resume. The ol Fine Gael routine. Classic
That shouldn’t be allowed. Load of layoffs and bailed out by the public
Great news.
Do a documentary on Dee Forbes first
Defund the gravy train propaganda machine.
That’s convenient.
Ripping people off, good money in that shit
So, despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, this is really fuck all to do with RTÉ nor is any pay increase likely:
1. It’s a framework to apply to all semi-states
2. It requires a business case
3. The Minister has to approve the increase
>The Irish Times understands that under a new system of pay bands being introduced for top-level executives in commercial State companies, pay for the RTÉ chief would be permitted to be set within a range between €250,000 and a maximum of €300,000.
>Any pay rise for Mr Bakhurst would be conditional on the RTÉ board putting forward a proposed increase at a point along the pay band and this being approved subsequently by the Minister for Communications Patrick O’Donovan.
They never learn….
It’s only 50 grand … go for it
The only way to fix RTE is to make it use a subscription model. That will help them connect with their customers.
Why not €100,000 though?
I think we should keep state company executive pay low, hire the worst people on poxy low pay for the role and let the people own the result.
We will definitely get better content out of rte by restricting its budget……
The people who pay the licence may as well just burn their money.
