    1. **From Zeeshan Aleem, MSNBC opinion writer/editor:**

In President Donald Trump’s first speech to the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, he casually threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea. That wasn’t exactly an outlier. All his addresses to the General Assembly during that first term were crude, and at times shocking, pieces of “America First” oratory. But the speech Trump delivered Tuesday, which was more “Trump First” than “America First,” may have been the most blatantly *humiliating* one yet, as far as America’s reputation is concerned. Even more so than usual, Trump was bogged down by constant frivolous tangents and a fixation on trumpeting, often deceptively, what he counts as his accomplishments. And given that the backdrop of Trump’s speech is his all-out assault on democracy in his own country, his lecturing world leaders on how to run a great nation was shocking in its audacity.

Trump peppered his remarks with constant petty asides about the United Nations’ New York headquarters, where he delivered Tuesday’s speech. He joked that someone was going to be in “big trouble” for an apparently malfunctioning teleprompter. He repeatedly complained about a stalled escalator that had forced him to exert more energy than should have been necessary.

More significantly, he worked to undermine the credibility of the U.N. as an institution for peacekeeping and global governance. Everyone knows that the U.N.’s ability to enforce international law and produce binding resolutions is weak. But Trump’s specific attempt to prosecute this argument involved reprising a set of absurd and misleading talking points.

Trumps mortifying for America period glad I don’t live in the states

    3. Unfortunately, many of us are too stupid or too shameless to be mortified by this man.

But he is always right. Look how immigration ruined our country. Specifically, the immigration of T’s mother and both T’s father’s parents.

      Psst, America!

      Honey, you can do better.

Your new guy is dumb and obnoxious, and I’m pretty sure he’s stealing from you. He’s driving away your friends, and he’s not even hot.

      Dump that loser!

It’s also humorous in many ways and humor is a very effective and non-violent weapon against fascists!

He was more upset about having to walk up a few steps when an escalator broke than anything else! And that is funny! His „Airing of grievances“ to the world was also funny and laughter is the best response to his constant mouth diarrhea.

Its ok to laugh at a clown.

Do writers of such articles realize half the country is in a cult and love everything he does? They approve of him grabbing women by the pussy, they approve of him leading a coup, shitting on the Constitution, hanging around with pedophiles, being a racist, etc.

They are not mortified, they are thrilled.

I mean I’m in the States, we’re past whatever mortifying is.

We’re in the „I’m in Danger“ phase.

There’s no speech he could give that would make him MORE mortifying than he has been this term.

    9. I read – and don’t know if it’s accurate- that Trumps own videographer camped at the top of the escalator to get glorious footage of dear leader. The escalators sensors thought there was a person or obstacle stuck at the top and powered down.

    10. On the contrary. I am glad it happened. I am glad it brought what’s going on in the USA to the attention of people who had been sleeping through it.

I sincerely hope that the international community starts calling their politicians and telling them to talk to their counterparts in the US government (Especially the GOP) that they have worked with in the past and asking them if they’ve lost their minds. They won’t listen to the voters, but they might listen to their contemporaries.

As a non-American it was fucking hilarious. The levels of delusion on display just made it even more obvious what you’re going through.

You know those dodgy religious tv channels where they try to get you to keep sending them money to build their church or to help save yourself? Yeah, see the rest of the world calls that a „cult“. And right now what you have is one of the biggest cults ever fucking created. My condolences to anyone who’s got family members caught up in it.

    12. Anybody even remotely in touch with reality could have rattled off a better address to a room full of some of the worlds most powerful people.

That everybody sat through an hour of broken escalators, the how marble is better than terrazzo and how their countries are going to hell is a testament to the decorum, and dignity of every single individual in that room, except for the one droning on about renovation budgets.

He spent more time talking about Biden at the UN. Why do other countries care about America’s politics?

    14. This entire year has been the most embarrassing year in American history. Sadly I think it’s just the warm up.

    15. Mortifying? Nah, sadly it was just another day. We were past mortifying two campaigns ago.

    16. NocturnalSaaS on

Even for Trump, that was bad. Dude went full on Grandpa Simpson about the escalator and fucking marble for some reason. Beyond cringe.

    17. Yes, as an American I was totally embarrassed for our country. Then even more so to hear that it was his people that screwed up the escalator and teleprompter!

    18. I’m so embarrassed to be an American bro. Weed and Sonic the Hedgehog can only do so much.

I was randomly at a deli getting coffee. He was on the tv, going on about marble floors….for the 5 or so minutes it took, he made no sense, and I was amazed that he was surrounded by the world’s leaders, blathering on like he was surrounded by his mouth breathing red hats.

Oh, to be a multilingual fly on the wall for any and all of the conversations afterward.

The other folks in the deli were equally appalled…no matter your political bent, THIS is what we bring to the UN ?

Vlad has to call his doctor, he has an erection lasting more than four hours……

    20. More damage done to the US by this „speech“ than any other one I can remember and I’m 78.

    21. Shouldn’t the title be „Trump’s mortifying U.N. speech was pretty darn normal for America“?

    22. DogBalls6689 on

The GOP is ok with America looking like an unhinged lunatic on the world stage.

How are they going to, with a straight face, insult the next democratic president about *anything* related to mental fitness after watching this moron slur his way through that garbage? If I didn’t know he was sober, I would have thought he was plastered. He’s unwell. He’s a national embarrassment. He’s a stain on the legacy of this great nation.

And the GOP? They love it.
