    1. The Trump administration has simply emboldened Americans to show us who they really are. The sentiments, attitudes and ideas that have caused Canada to go “elbows up” have always simmered below the surface. An arrogant, hateful, self absorbed nation wasn’t suddenly created with the election of DT. It simply facilitated removing its mask.

    2. It may have been provoked by Trump, but it has been stoked by other American politicians, media figures and citizens.

Why would anyone think Buttigieg is a potential presidential candidate? He’ll almost certainly run in the democratic primary, but he has no significant momentum.

Also, the Democratic primaries largely don’t matter anymore as the DNC top brass has just crowned their preferred candidate by fiat the last few times around.

    4. And like a storm, repairing the damage will take a lot longer than causing it. Even if the next president is a saint, Trump is a symptom not a cause.

      I really like Pete.

I keep hearing he polls at 0% with the black community in Trumpistan, but I feel like a big part of that is he hasn’t really been given the platform that would allow them to know him.

    6. A large part of the American electorate is looking for a reform candidate. They voted for the guy who told them he’d fix everything, albeit with a completely inarticulate and mostly grievance-based appeal. The Democrats will win if they nominate a reform candidate who can both articulate an argument but also engage and incite a following. That candidate will likely concern moderates, but moderate appeal isn’t working because it inevitably sounds like standard politics and defense of the status quo which people are tired of. Is Butty that guy? I don’t know. Not sure he’s got enough rizz.
