Before that, sounds like Silicon Valley Syndrome to me. A lot of non-AI related psychos emerged from that place before Altman. Blood scam, juice scam, user data scam, etc.
Progress for the sake of profit and personal glory, where too much money is concentrated and used to feed the egos of anti-social freaks and their messianic delusions.
