*if the Trump administration stops cutting the agency’s workforce and budget.

I’m cool with anything space related that we decide to fund, but why the moon? Is it just because China is doing moon stuff and we got butt hurt about losing a race?

I really would like a clip of the exact quote that was said by NASA, because I’m amazed they would ever use „No later than“ instead of „No earlier than“ for any launch related anything.

    4. Oh cool, a space mission with cuts to budget, manpower, brainpower, and morals. I’m sure it will be fine.

    5. Where do I sign up to get off this planet? I’ll take a one-way trip in the direction of the Moon.

    6. How?
      With super glue and Legos?
I thought the orange person dropped the funding
      big time.

NASA should seriously consider postponing all if this until/unless we get an admin with actual competence back in office. It’s a tall order, and may never happen, but if we launch with clowns and thieves in charge, we are risking disaster and decades long setbacks.

Curious what astronaut that isn’t really a cosmonaut would look at the current state of NASA and sign up for a manned mission that SpaceX couldn’t rescue them from.

    9. Wow red vs blue politics have really harmed a lot of peoples interest in space. Here we are with good news and I see nothing but hateful comments. Feels like the level of petulance I see in TV shows with kids.

    10. I could launch a manned missions too.

      I won’t. But I could.

Realistically, with nasa being defunded at every corner and being turned into a spy/information agency, it’s not gonna happen.

    11. It’s a one way mission and taking this admin’s views into consideration, if it’s a one way trip, they will definitely be sending a black man and a woman.

    12. I hope I get to see a moon landing in the future before climate change destroys society tbh. I think this one they aren’t actually landing but it’s a start.

This makes me laugh. There’s need to be moon launches ongoing right now to prep for manned moon missions next year.

Also I’m intrigued how they plan to live stream from the far side of the moon, what with the entire moon in the way

    14. Nothing is final, of course

The deepest funding cuts proposed by the Trump White House came in science, which the president sought to cut from $7.33 billion in 2025 to $3.9 billion in 2026. The House budget does not restore as many of these cuts as the Senate bill; however, its top-line funding for science is still $6 billion. Under the House budget, Earth science faces the stiffest cut, from $2.14 billion to $1.33 billion in fiscal year 2026.

As someone who grew up hearing that we *could* land a man on Mars in the 90s, or we subsequently *could* do it in the 2010s… I’ll believe it when I see it.

Admittedly, we’re far closer. But „could“ is a near-useless word, and generally is a good indicator in a headline that the story is **not** actually news.

So we really are just going to skip steps and say „fuck it, Artemis II is the inital landing, and Artemis III will be the moon base“?

The Chinese really are about to For all mankind us aren’t they?

If this were true, the statement would be „NASA’s manned moon mission *will be* on (insert exact date here) February 2026.“

      Not „could“ and „by.“
