      And there are British people who are Trump fans. There are Trump flags appearing at protests, etc.

      If a person thinks this idiot is worth listening to, what does that say about them?

      It’s a bit hypocritical where the political control of the NHS, continued with gusto by Wes, acted as a trial run for the method they’re using to legitimise ignoring doctors and researchers who work in a field in favour of individual doctors with unrelated qualifications in different areas being hand-selected for already having the opinion the politicians want.

      It was never going to stay in the UK once the Americans saw how well it worked fucking over trans people.

      I know there has been some recent research showing a potential moderate link, but it’s certainly not definitive or settled science.

      More research is needed. Taking paracetamol sparingly is absolutely better than suffering a serious fever during pregnancy, though it probably shouldn’t be a first resort for more minor ailments (*if* you can get rid of a headache by drinking more water and having some fresh air, best to try that, with paracetamol if it doesn’t work – how most people operate anyway I imagine).

      The correlation shown during the research I’ve read was only moderate – it’s certainly never going to be a total preventative measure (the genetic link is much higher, and there are almost certainly always going to be other environmental factors), but *if* the link is proven and the advice reduces severity or risk of autism in 20% of children, that would be a great thing.

      The first Autism diagnosis was in 1943,
      Trump was born in 1946.

      So close, why couldn’t he have just been 3 years older.

      There was a sytematic review published in August that suggested a potential link between neurodevelopmental disorders and paracetamol usage in pregnancy.

      This was one study that analysed the trends from a total of 46 studies in this area. It seems this is the paper Trump is using to form his perception on this matter.

      This is science, so any link is tentative. What this means in practice is that this paper shouldn’t be ignored, but more grants & robust research is needed to fully evaluate the effects of paracetamol on foetal development.

      The authors did not advocate for a blanket ban on paracetamol usage at this stage. It’s too early for this. They also recognise a stressed mother can also induce problems during foetal development. So, if paracetamol relieves some ’stress’/migraines etc. there may be net positive effects from its usage.

      Rather, they suggested being more cautious when using paracetamol when pregnant: 1. To use the lowest effective dose, 2. For the shortest possible duration.

      The also suggest paracetamol use WHEN pregnant should perhaps be used under the guidance of a GP and not self-adminstered, for the reasons cited above.

      We have to be careful that research doesn’t become a political football on any side of the political spectrum.

      Seen this comment the woman said it’s paracetamol and the MMR vaccine, so how does that even make sense if paracetamol is meant to cause it in the womb? And MMR is 2 years after.

      But definitely listen to Cass. That report is robust science that definitely stands up to scrutiny, and absolutely wasn’t a load of bunk written with a conclusion in mind. This is very different.

      Well paracetamol is believed to be fairly bad for kidneys as far as I have heard so at least everyone will have healthier kidneys now. Also, buy shares in ibuprofen producers

      This all comes from a very weak meta-analysis of limited data.

      But decades of scientists haven’t been able to track down a cause of autism… yet we’re supposed to believe Trump and RFK, two grossly unqualified people with no medical background whatsoever, have sussed it in six months?

      Trump can’t even pronounce acetominophen (what the US calls paracetamol).

      I know „big pharma“ are far from innocent. There’s a lot of dubious practices open to fair criticism (price gouging, etc). But there’s something about the right-wing grift that I noticed with Russell Brand, too. They push an anti-med angle, and yet you then see ads for homoeopathic „remedies“ like vitamins, and „food supplements“

      And I know vitamins are, in the correct doses, necessary for us (here there’s supposed to be strict laws on how they’re marketed, you can say they support functioning, but you can’t claim them as a cure without being able to back that up).

      But I wouldn’t be surprised if RFK has shares in some natural health company that sells supplements and shit.
