The Conservative Party of BC also put out a press release celebrating Rustad’s 70.66% „pass“.
Curiously, the party simultaneously voted on „John Rustad’s 11-point Leadership Pledge“. Interestingly, that platform was affirmed by 10 percentage points more than Rustad himself was approved:

It’s surprising how few people, out of a province of 5.7 million people, are directing the future of our province.

I’m curious about the process involved here. Was there any chance that any extra anti-Rustad folks disqualified?
Feel like B.C politics will be in a worse position in the long term as a consequence of the rise of the BCC. By contrast The BCLiberals/BCNDP dynamic was much more politically healthy and less partisan and gave centrist voters reasonable options to back. By contrast, I feel like the political choice is now between the sane centrist party and the right wing populist/socially conservative party. (which is what has happened here in Alberta as well with the rise of the UCP)
It’s increasingly feeling like Alberta and B.C are seeing our old Social Credit party’s get resurrected with slightly different branding .
The BC Conservatives is a huge experiment that isn’t going to last. It’s a party that is filled with amateurs made legitimate by opportunistic floor crossers.
The guy BC Conservatives want to continue as their standard-bearer:
– compared the teaching of sexuality and gender to the Indian residential school system.
– opposes virtually any indigenous land claim
– supported a „Nuremburg 2.0“ (actual words) prosecution against public health officials for promoting vaccines during the COVID pandemic
– opposes the building of affordable housing
